
Mike Picker B.Sc. (Hons) Ph.D.
Mike Picker is one of Africa's leading entomologists. He has a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town, where he researches the behaviour, taxonomy and conservation of invertebrates, as well undertaking invertebrate-based impact assessments. He wrote the widely-used Field Guide to the Insects of South Africa, now in it's second edition. Experience includes:
- Co-discovery of the new insect order Mantophasmatodea
- First studies of endemicity in the invertebrate fauna of the Cape Peninsula
- Faunal component of the nomination of the Cape Floral Region as a World Heritage site
- Editor of the journal African Entomology and Associate Editor of African Zoology
