Principal Biologist

Andrew Trotter has a B.App.Sc (Hons) and Ph.D. in Aquaculture/Aquatic Biology from the University of Tasmania.

Andrew has more than 10 years experience in various fields of biology. He studied and worked at the Tasmania Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute for five years, investigating the larval biology and culture techniques of striped trumpeter. At the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, associated with the University of Melbourne, Andrew used zebrafish as a model to identify genes that govern intestinal development.

Andrew joined the Bennelongia team in July 2008.

Experience includes:

  • Fish biology and the control of growth
  • Genetic and molecular biology techniques such as genomic scan analysis, SSLP mapping, RFLP/SNP identification and analysis, various PCR techniques, nucleotide sequence analysis, genetic complementation analysis, in situ hybridization, western blots and molecular cloning.
  • Subterranean fauna survey and risk assessment
